about

I really wanted to do a simple no-keyboard-required mini-set of songs, but I also had this idea of a split record where one side had this electric reggae kind of vibe, and the other was exclusively songs that sounded like a Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli soundtrack. The electric-reggae idea fell through, but I was still determined to make the other side of that record come true. So I trolled the bountiful internet, and cut and snipped at any OST that crossed my path. Eventually I ended up with about 30 samples or so. I brought them all on my sampler, and started jamming them out with my looper and amp. I ended up with about 3 songs that worked in a pseudo-live environment (Cait Sith, Meth, and Crows), and one set of samples that eventually got reworked into a non-performable track (Benevolence). After showing the ideas to the rest of the band, they seemed excited, but I was apprehensive to see how they would work in a real-live setting. I started making the tracks in Ableton, and after getting a pretty positive response from friends, and making the songs work on stage, I was confident that I could release these under the JHC name without regretting it 7 months from now when I've moved on to a different genre. I hope yall can dig these tunes. <3
